Professor Giovanni Zanconato is specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in Endocrinology.
Main field of clinical work, research and teching is Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Since 1988 Prof. Zanconato has developed special skills in maternal and child health in low income countries.
Since 1992 practices Obstetrics managing high risk pregnancy, severe morbility and maternal mortality.

Topic Description Research area
Severe maternal morbidity Clinical research in this field monitors risk indicators in the pregnant woman: severe maternal morbidity, otherwise called obstetric near-miss, deserves to be studied with the aim of determining its prevalence, preventing and reducing feto-maternal adverse events, assessing quality of obstetric care. The same approach has been applied in a low-income country, as Mozambique, where there is an ongoing project of scientific and cultural exchange, dealing mainly with obstetrics and anthropology. High risk pregnancy The prevailing topic is pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). The research activity concerns maternal and fetal Epoxyeicosatrienoic acids in normotensive and preeclamptic pregnancies. In collaboration with the Unit for the Treatment of Hypertensive disorders, the aim is finding the starting point and what causes endothelial vascular lesions.
